Eddie Eagle Program

What the Program Does
The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program teaches children in pre-kindergarten through third grade four important steps to take if they find a gun. These steps are presented by the program's mascot, Eddie Eagle®, in an easy-to-remember format consisting of the doing the following:

Eddie Eagle talks to childrenIf you see a gun:
  • Stop!
  • Don't touch
  • Leave the area
  • Tell an adult

Why the Program is Necessary
There are over 200 million firearms in the United States. Whether or not a particular family owns firearms, the chances are that neighbors and relatives do. This makes it likely that children will encounter a firearm at some point. From their earliest awareness, children are exposed to guns through cartoons, television shows, and movies. They're curious about firearms and may have developed inaccurate perceptions of what a firearm is and does.
