About Mark Denny
Mark Denny was selected as City Manager of the City of Fontana on February 25, 2020. Before coming to Fontana, Mark served as the City Manager of the City of Dana Point.
While at Dana Point, Orange County’s premier coastal destination, Mark was responsible for assisting the Council in updating the City’s Strategic Plan, establishing a comprehensive set of new financial policies and implementing a reorganization plan that produced structural general fund savings. He also led a number of technology initiatives including deployment of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), OpenGov financial transparency tool and mobile applications for citizens and visitors to access city facilities and services.
Prior to Dana Point, Mark served as the Chief Operating Officer of the County of Orange, where he was responsible for nine County departments comprising 9,200 FTEs and an annual budget of $3.5 billion. His tenure at the County also included serving as the Director of OC Parks and Chief of Staff to Supervisor Bill Campbell. While Director of OC Parks, Mark oversaw and facilitated the largest real estate transaction in Orange County’s history – the donation of 20,000 acres of open space of the historic Irvine Ranch into the County’s regional park system.
Mark’s career prior to government service included work at pharmaceutical giant Allergan, leadership of the American Watercraft Association and as a principal of a public affairs consulting firm.
A California native, Mark has an Associate’s Degree from Orange Coast College and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton. He is also a graduate of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Level III Academy.
Mark and his wife Kathi live in San Clemente. They have two children. Reagan is 23 and recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and is currently in the medical school application process. Jackson is 21 and a junior at Chapman University.
