Election Information
Elected Officers
Fontana is a General Law City governed by a Mayor and a four-member City Council. The City also elects a City Clerk and City Treasurer. All elected officers for the City of Fontana serve the City for four-year terms, which are staggered. The City’s municipal elections are generally held on the first Tuesday in November in even-numbered years.
District Elections
On September 12, 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1767 which established four (4) City Council Districts, a By-District Election System for members of the City Council and provided for the Mayor of the City of Fontana to be elected City-wide.
Starting with the November 6, 2018, election, Council Members will be elected from geographically defined districts. Districts 1 & 4 will hold elections on November 6, 2018, along with the seat of Mayor, City Clerk and City Treasurer. Districts 2 & 3 will hold elections in the November 2020 General Election.

General Municipal Election November 3, 2020
The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the following offices:
- District 2 - Council Member
- District 3 - Council Member

Qualifications to Run For City Office
To run for City Office, you must be:
- A United States citizen
- 18 years of age or older
- A Resident and registered voter of the City of Fontana at the time nomination papers are issued
Voter Registration Forms
Residents can pick up voter registration forms at the City Clerk’s Office located in City Hall at 8353 Sierra Avenue, Fontana, California. Residents can also pick up a voter registration form by visiting the Lewis Library and Technology Center located at 8437 Sierra Avenue, Fontana, CA.
