Construction on Central City Park has begun and is expected to be complete in December 2020.
The goal of the Central City Park Project in Fontana is to create a sports facility that will be used for football and soccer games. The scale and quality of this facility are similar to the existing Ralph M. Lewis Sports Complex. This 14.5-acre facility will include:
One synthetic turf field soccer field
Two football fields with soccer overlays
Sports lighting for nighttime play
New horseshoe pits
ADA accessible playground
Concessions, storage and restroom buildings
0.75-acre community garden
The existing Cypress Community Center will remain on-site and be open during construction. The horseshoe area and community garden will be relocated and all new equipment installed. Central City Park will enhance the connection between the downtown area, the City hall campus, Miller Park, the Lewis Library and the Rose Garden/historical site. Central City Park will also provide a trailhead to the Pacific Electric Trail, providing restroom facilities and rest areas for the hundreds of people that walk or bike the trail.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
