Chief of Police

Chief Rodney G. Jones began his career with the Fontana
Police Department as
an Officer in February of 1981. Beginning in May of 1990, Rod moved through the
ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, culminating in his
promotion to Chief of Police in December of 2007.
Chief Jones has significant experience in the various
divisions of the police department including supervisory duties over areas such
as Patrol, Internal Affairs, Backgrounds, Budgeting, Crime Prevention,
Narcotics, Gangs and Traffic. Most recently, as a Captain, Chief Jones was
assigned as the Division Commander for both the Administration Division and the
Special Operations Division.
In addition to his distinguished career in law enforcement,
Chief Jones achieved his Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement as well
as the status of Juris Doctor from Western State University – College of Law.
In June of 2000, Chief Jones graduated from Session 201 of
the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, in Quantico,
Virginia. In addition to holding numerous POST certificates, he is also a proud
graduate of POST Command College, Session 28.
Chief Jones was admitted to The State Bar of California as
an Attorney in July of 2001 by the Supreme Court of the State of California and
admitted as an Attorney for the United States 9th Circuit, Central
District in November of 2001. He is also a member of the San Bernardino County
Bar Association.
An avid Rotarian, Chief Jones was recently recognized by
the Fontana Rotary as Rotarian of the Year in 2007.
