At the start of the new millennium
in 2000, the Fontana City Council
initiated the Robert W. Weddle
Capital Improvements Program
as a tribute to Fontana's late
City Engineer, Robert W. Weddle.
Bob passed away in June 2001,;
he was a true visionary and
inspiration to all who knew
him. Bob was instrumental in
laying the foundation for the
design, funding, and construction
of a number of public infrastructure
project in Fontana. The capital
improvements program that bears
his name is an ambitious 7-10
year, $200 million program consisting
of 27 major projects, several
consisting of multiple phases,
that will result in new streets,
landscaped areas, storm drains,
sewer lines, dry utilities,
freeway interchanges and over
crossings throughout the City.
Collectively, these infrastructure
projects will go a long way
towards opening up the development
potential of the City. The Robert
W. Weddle Capital Improvement
Program is being jointly implemented
under the auspices of the Community
Development Department and the
Redevelopment and Special Projects
Department.
There are 27 major projects currently identified as part
of this program. The Redevelopment Agency and Special Projects
Department will provide support and master scheduling on projects
directed by other City departments.
Effective July 2003, support for the RWW CIP projects was
moved to the Engineering Division of the Community Development
Department.
