The Civic Center Campus Conceptual Master
Plan was completed in February 2000. Subsequently, a design
contract was awarded for the design of the Civic Center entry,
public open space, and the first segments of the ultimate
20-mile Pacific Electric Trail System. This project is currently
under construction and is expected to be completed in June
2004. Key elements of this project are described below.

Seville Avenue, east of Sierra Avenue will become the main
entry to the Civic Center. The entrance at Sierra Avenue is
highlighted by a distinctive paving pattern. Two modern adaptations
of the "Spanish bowl" fountain are located on either
side of the entry. A formal grove of trees leads to a large
roundabout with a splashing fountain. To the right is the
large civic gathering place for outdoor events and festivals.
This multi-purpose area includes a large grassy area, and
space for special events, art shows, farmer's markets, and
more.
The formal civic gathering place is adjacent to and integrated
with the more informal Miller Park. Large pillars will march
through Miller Park from Arrow Highway up to the vicinity
of the public gathering area. Each pillar depicts a decade
in the history of Fontana. A landscaped multi-purpose trail
along the old Pacific Electric Railroad right-of-way stretches
from Juniper Avenue on the west to Palmetto Avenue on the
east. On the west side, at the site of the old freight depot,
restoration of the depot into a business providing light snacks
and pastries in indoor and outdoor eating areas is proposed.
The Fontana Historical Society bungalow will be moved to the
site from its present location in Miller Park. Construction
on this project will start in the spring of 2002.
