The Southwest Industrial Park Redevelopment Project (SWIP)
was originally adopted in 1977, and has been amended on six
separate occasions. The SWIP Project includes approximately
2,326 acres of land primarily designated for industrial and
light manufacturing uses with some minor commercial uses.
Approximately 38 percent of the Project area is either vacant
or undeveloped, or designated for future build-out. Most of
this land lies in the southwest part of the City south of
the Interstate 10 Freeway. Amendment No. 5, approved in 1994,
added 67 acres of land along the north side of Interstate
10 and is currently designated for commercial development,
including an auto mall site. Amendment No. 6 was adopted on
November 15, 1994 to bring the Southwest Industrial Park redevelopment
Plan into conformity with the requirements of AB 1290.
