Mulch Giveaway

The City offers FREE mulch (when available) to residents every Saturday (except holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, located at 16454 Orange Way (near Cypress)

When applied properly, mulch is a valuable asset to your landscape, because it:
a wheelbarrow full of mulch
  • Reduces Weed Growth
  • Slows Evaporation
  • Moderates Soil Temperature
  • Reduces Erosion
  • Adds Organic Matter
  • Prevents Compaction

Mulch should be placed over soil in a depth of three to five inches around your plants. It should also be pulled away from tree/shrub trunks to reduce the chance of root rot.

Composting

Composting is the practice of allowing green waste to be converted into compost, a free and valuable soil amendment. Grass cycling is the method of leaving clippings on the lawn, which allows them to compost right on the lawn. Finally, Vermicomposting allows red worms to digest food waste and turn it into valuable fertilizer.
