The Mayor and City Council are proud to announce the Community Services Department received two 2009 Awards of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS). One award was given in the category of Single Focus Brochure for the Sunset Concert Series. The other award was given in the category of Agency Logo for the Fontana Days Run. The Community Services Department will receive recognition for both awards at the 2009 California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training Conference, held in Palm Springs, Ca on March 9 – 12, 2010.
According to Garth Nelson, Community Services Director, the CPRS awards program is the highest statewide recognition the City of Fontana, Community Services Department can receive. These awards are a credit to the staff and volunteers that contributed their time and talents to make this happen.
CPRS Executive Director Jane H. Adams states, “The City of Fontana Community Services Department was selected to receive these prestigious awards due to their commitment to setting new directions by addressing community wide issues such as encouraging participation in recreational experiences, promoting health and wellness, increasing cultural unity, strengthening community identity as well as enhancing the quality of life for Fontana residents. In addition to addressing these community wide issues, the agency identified clear and measureable outcomes and Community Services staff played a leading role in bringing together multiple community resources to achieve their goals. CPRS and the award sponsors, Hunter, Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems and RJM Design Group, Inc. are proud to recognize the City of Fontana Community Services Department for their efforts in creating community through people, parks and programs.”
The CPRS Awards Committee present awards in six categories: Recreation/Community Services, Agency Showcase (for marketing materials and campaigns), Professional and Service, Facility Design, Park Planning as well as Maintenance Management and Operations. CPRS is a membership organization with approximately 4,000 members representing the 525 local parks and recreation agencies throughout the state. The mission of the CPRS is to provide the leadership and resources to promote the role of parks and recreation in creating community through people, parks and programs.
