PRESS RELEASE

Fontana’s Artist Showcase presents “Let Them Eat Cake”
By Artist Martiros Adalian

Release Date: December 21, 2009

The Mayor and City Council invite the public to view the Art Depot Gallery’s quarterly Artist Showcase, Let Them Eat Cake.

Every quarter, the Art Depot in Fontana highlights a Southern California artist and displays their work at the Art Depot Gallery. The Winter Artist Showcase at the Fontana Art Depot features artist Martiros Adalian and his exhibit, Let Them Eat Cake. Adalian’s showcase is themed after 18th Century France. During a time of food shortages and hardship, Marie Antoinette, wife of Louis XVI, the King of France, was told the people have no food to eat, to which she responded "Let them eat cake". This exhibition is a mixture of what that era represented: wealth, big hair, poverty and images from nightmares of Francisco Goya in a more modern interpretation. Visit www.adalart.com for a glimpse of Adalian’s artwork.

The Art Depot is located in Downtown Fontana, across from the Lewis Library at 16822 Spring Street. The Gallery is host to Adalian’s work for eight weeks from January 4 to February 26. You can view Adalian’s showcase and meet him at Family Art Day on Friday, February 5 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. During the Family Art Day at 7:00 pm, Martiros will be present to demonstrate his talents and talk to the public about the specific works and techniques he uses in his artwork. Family Art Day also includes hands on activities as well as live entertainment. If you’re unable to make it out for Family Art Day, the Art Depot Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The quarterly artist showcase is a growing cornerstone of the Fontana Arts program focused on enriching life through art events and activities in the Fontana Community. The Art Depot serves as a hub for the City’s art activities such as Open Studio, Fusion Friday and Open Gallery Exhibits making the venue one of the many destinations for family-friendly entertainment in Fontana.
