The Mayor and City Council invite the public to view the Art Depot Gallery’s quarterly Artist Showcase, In Our Dreams.
Every quarter, the Art Depot in Fontana features a local artist and displays their work at the Art Depot Gallery. The Fall Artist Showcase at the Fontana Art Depot features artist Caron Rand and her work In Our Dreams. Rand’s showcase reflects and exposes the inhumane treatment of artists during World War II. The artwork includes the use of variously colored geometric shapes which were used to identify socially condemned groups in Nazi concentrations camps. The black and white paintings with bright bursts of color from the geometric shapes reflect the haunting struggles of those oppressive times.
Inspired by a film that discusses art, Hitler and war, Rand says, “In the film, The Rape of Europa, one learns that WWII was not only a war on humanity but art as well. Hitler valued art and he vilified it.”
“Art, devoid of sound, can be a powerful, visual scream about the paradoxes of life,” says Rand. Rand has been teaching art related courses at colleges and universities for the past thee years while continuing to grow in her art practice.
The Art Depot is located in Downtown Fontana, across from the Lewis Library at 16822 Spring Street. The Gallery is host to Rand’s work for eight weeks from October 5 to November 27. You can view Rand’s showcase and meet her at Family Art Day on Friday, November 6 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Family Art Day will also include demonstrations from Rand, hands on activities as well as live entertainment. If you’re unable to make it out for Family Art Day, the Art Depot Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The quarterly artist showcase is a growing cornerstone of the cultural arts program in the City of Fontana.
