Mariachi Divas and others set to perform in Fontana

Fontana, California. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to the May cultural art performances at the Steelworkers’ Auditorium in the Lewis Library and Technology Center, located at 8437 Sierra Avenue. On Friday, May 15 at 6:30 pm, the City of Fontana will host a special engagement performance featuring the Grammy Award winning Mariachi Divas. On Friday, May 22 at 5pm, the monthly Inspired Entertainment series will feature a Peruvian Dance performance followed by Active Creation on, Saturday, May 23 at 2 pm featuring Songs and Sounds of Ancient Mexico. Finally, on Tuesday, May 26 the new Music Musing performance will feature Flamenco Guitar performed by guitarist Bill Ostrie. All performances are free.

The Mariachi Divas are an all-female Mariachi musical performance group. They have been honored with the Regional Mexican Album American Grammy Award. Their unique multi-cultural musical performance includes music sounds from Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Panama, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and Peru. The band has made numerous television appearances and is making big waves on the national music scene.

Peruvian Dance and a band performance offer fun Peruvian dancing while a band plays percussion, string, and other traditional South American instruments. The dance is an elegant and stylish blend of the different cultures of Peru. Songs and Sounds of Ancient Mexico is an educational show that will be loads of fun for the whole family. There will be a musical instrument demonstration featuring the music of Ancient Mexico, a discussion on cultural diversity, and instruction on the instruments.

Flamenco guitarist Bill Ostrie plays beautiful traditional flamenco songs on his guitar outside in the courtyard of the Lewis Library and Technology Center. The powerful rhythms and mysterious melodies of the traditional flamenco pieces such as soleares, alegrías, and bulerías will carry you away. Ostrie is a San Diego area performer appreciated throughout Southern California.
