Fontana’s “Healthy Jr. Chef Cooking Class”
Fontana, California. The Mayor and City Council invite youth ages
8 to 14, to participate in the interactive Healthy Jr. Chef cooking class hosted by Healthy Fontana located at 15800 South Park Lane on Saturday, August 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. An additional class will be held on September 19. Classes are free, however, pre-registration is required. Parent supervision is mandatory. The Healthy Jr. Chef Cooking Class will give participants hands-on experience while teaching youth how to cook and prepare healthy dishes and snacks in a setting that is designed for student success.
Earlier this year, Healthy Fontana reached out to younger residents by introducing the new Healthy JR. Chef Cooking Class. The class, which is funded by a grant from Kaiser Permanente, will teach youth about nutrition, meal preparation, safe food handling, sanitation and proper utensil use. The Healthy Jr. Chef Cooking Class will offer youth a chance to show off their culinary talents, which can serve as a boost for self-confidence.
“Healthy Fontana is excited to be able to offer the City of Fontana’s children this great opportunity to learn about nutrition and cooking healthy, easy recipes. Thanks to a grant funded by Kaiser these classes are free to the residents,” says Dede Benson, coordinator for Healthy Fontana.
Healthy Fontana cooking classes are intended to encourage individuals of all ages to increase their daily intake of fruit and vegetables. Like the Fast Fresh and Fabulous Cookin’ Classes for adults ages 15 and older, the Healthy Jr. Chef Cooking Class will include demonstrations and explanations about the roles that food choices play in our daily lives.
