PRESS RELEASE
Fontana's
Artist Showcase Opens with African Art
Release Date: January 9, 2008
Fontana,
California, January 4, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite residents from the Inland Empire to
celebrate our cultural diversity with the latest Artist Showcase, African Art: a Look into Culture, featuring
the talents of California-based Oona Ciji Houston and sponsored by Bel-Air Swap-Meet, Inc. The culturally-inspired
paintings will be presented at the Art Depot, 16822 Spring Street, beginning Monday, January 14 followed by the
Family Art Day and Artist Showcase on Saturday, January 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The exhibit will be on display
until Friday, March 21.
"I most enjoy working with themes covering rites of passage and community as well as creating traditional African
pieces from non traditional materials," says Houston.
The artist will have ample opportunity to present her methods and unique style at the Family Art Day where she
will provide live demonstrations. The event will also feature a live jazz band, the Blues Gypsies, traditional
tribal crafts, and food.
At 5:00 p.m. the doors of the Art Depot will be opened for participants to walk through the gallery and enjoy
a live interactive discussion with Houston.
The Artist Showcases and Family Art Days are just a sample of the cultural arts programs offered to area residents.
The Open Studio, Concerts in the Park, and Cruise Nights are all featured at the Art Depot and make the venue
a destination for family-friendly entertainment.
