Garage/Yard
Sale Permits
Are you tired of looking at all that clutter? Have
you ever heard the saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure"? Why not have a yard sale?
It's easy, just follow the simple steps below and away you go.
- Decide the date (s) that you would like to have your garage/yard sale
- Come to City Hall to apply for a garage/yard sale permit (you may apply at any time prior to the actual
sale date)
- Pay the $8.00 permit fee
Information required for the permit:
- Name
- Address where the garage/yard sale will be held (apartment buildings and mobile home parks require written
permission from the property owner or management company that is an authorized signer for the property
owner).
- Phone Number
- Dates of the garage/yard sale
Garage/Yard sale permits are governed by the Fontana
Municipal Code Sec. 15-2. Yard sale permits.
- Required. Every person conducting such sale shall obtain a permit. Before a permit may be issued, an
affidavit must be filed with the license collector stating that all property to be sold is the applicant's
own personal property and has not been acquired or consigned to him for the purpose of resale, or benefit
of other than the occupants of the premises. The permit fee shall be $8.00.
- Frequency and time. An individual or household shall be limited to one such sale per six-month period
(i.e., six months must pass between sales) and shall be limited to three consecutive days, or two consecutive
weekends of two days each, a weekend being Saturday and Sunday. Such sale may be conducted only between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
- Signs. One double-faced sign, not to exceed four square feet in area on any one side, shall be permitted
on the property where such sale is located. In addition, two directional signs of like size may be placed
on private property with the written consent of the owner or resident. No sign shall be nailed or affixed
to any tree, fence post, or public utility pole and shall not be located within the public right-of-way,
parkway, or on publicly owned property. Signs may be posted only on the actual days of sale and only between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
- Display of goods. Sale goods may not be displayed in the public right-of-way, and all such goods shall
be arranged so that fire, safety service, health, and other officials may have access for inspection at
all times during the sale.
- Exceptions. The provisions of this section shall not apply to sales of personal property made under
court order of process.
So why not clean out that garage, empty those closets,
get rid of all that stuff that has been taking up so much valuable space and have a garage/yard sale this weekend.
Have fun, get the kids involved, make it a family day.
