License FAQs
What paperwork do I need to get a dog license?
A
current rabies certificate and the spay/neuter certificate is
needed.
Do
I have to spay/neuter my dog?
Altering
your dog is a personal choice. However, the fees for unaltered
dogs is significantly higher than the altered fees.
Will
I get a reminder to renew my license?
A
yellow postcard will be mailed to you. The postcard has all
of your information as well as your dogs information. We recommend
that you bring in the postcard when you renew your license.
Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the owner to remember
to renew their license on time.
How
long do I have to get my dog licensed?
You
have within 30 days of owning your dog, or within 30 days of
moving into the City of Fontana.
Does
my dog have to wear the license?
Yes,
the license must be attached to the dog’s collar or harness.
Why
did I get a courtesy notice on my door?
Courtesy
notices are posted throughout the city. The notices are to ensure
that all dogs residing in the city have current licenses. If
your dog is currently licensed and you receive a notice, you
may disregard the notice.
Can
I license my dog for more than 1 year?
Multiple
year licenses may be purchased if the rabies is valid for more
than the current license year.
