Reviving Economic Opportunity: 2010 State of the City Address

Mayor Mark Nuaimi

Fontana Mayor Mark Nuaimi will deliver the Annual State of the City address on January 28, 2010 at Fontana Park’s Jessie Turner Community Center. This annual event provides employees, business owners, potential investors, and residents an opportunity to hear the City’s plans for the coming year. This year’s event will also offer attendees a glimpse back at the successes of the last decade and a look forward into this new decade.

While 2009 was a difficult year for the nation, Fontana was also faced with financial challenges. Nonetheless, many projects and programs were launched and completed in this successful year and the Mayor and City Council will highlight those accomplishments. “It’s easy to lead when things are going well,” said Mayor Mark Nuaimi. “The successes we shared in 2009 despite the tough economic times are evidence that our disciplined management approach worked well for our community,” said Nuaimi.

One Year Ago

2009 was a challenge for City leadership, but that is difficult to tell from the list of service enhancements, project beginnings, and project completions. Among the highlights of Fontana’s accomplishments in 2009 are the launch of a new police report system, the opening of the Shops at Sierra Lakes, the groundbreaking on Kaiser Permanente’s new hospital, the opening of Fernandez Park, and the grand opening of Hilton Garden Inn.

Last year, Nuaimi proclaimed that it was not only a great day in Fontana; it was a great future for Fontana as well. While times are tough, the Mayor and City Council are adamant that Fontana’s future is still bright.

By thinking strategically and continuing to explore innovative solutions to the City’s challenges, Fontana will continue to meet today’s needs and plan for tomorrow’s.

What to Expect

Attendees at any of the three sessions (8:00 AM, 11:30 AM, & 7:00 PM) should expect to hear the vision of the Mayor and City Council for not only 2010 but beyond. Fontana’s focus has and continues to be meeting the needs of the residents, businesses, and visitors to our community and that theme will be underscored as the Mayor presents this year’s message. “When Fontana is fully developed, we’ll be the population of Anaheim. I believe strongly that we need to understand the implications of that growth and leverage our opportunities to ensure that Fontana continues to be one of the best places in America to raise a family,” said Nuaimi.
