Community Services Department Moves Under One Roof
The Community Services Department has moved from three separate office locations into one single location in order to provide a “one-stop-shop” environment for the community. The Community Services Administrative staff is now housed together, in the Fontana Downtown, at 16860 Valencia Avenue (corner of Valencia and Nuevo). Some of you might better know this building from one of its previous lives - as the old Social Security office and more recently as the county library.

The decision to move the department was made in the belief that when a staff works closely together– physically as well as procedurally – communications and teamwork are enhanced. Now, with the new single-space structure, a resident desiring to register for a Zumba class and meet with programming staff about the Fontana After School program will be able to do both in one visit and at one location – a great time and gas savings.
The Community Services Department, since its creation, has been housed in several different buildings throughout the City. In fact, this recent space change is just a number of the ways the department has changed since it was originally established. Over the years, the department has included parks, been a division of public works, and even been a part of human resources. Today, the staff of Community Services has grown to over 40 full time and 400 part time employees, offering more than 1,000 classes, programs and events to the community.

The increase in staffing is a direct result of Fontana’s population growth, now at more than 187,000 people, and the increased demand for community programs, events and services. Through the development of the department, the City has been able to support the many programs and services it has offered throughout the years, not to mention add new programs requested from the community at large.
The staff housed in the new Community Services Administration building includes Healthy Fontana, Fontana After School Program, Sports, Special Events, administrative staff, Fontana Community Foundation and KFON Government Access channel. Community Services staff currently working on site at the Jessie Turner Health and Fitness Center, Jack Bulik, Miller, Heritage, Cypress, Don Day and other dedicated centers will remain at those centers to continue to serve the residents and community members in those locations.
