Will you hold the "golden ticket?"
Waiting for the library to open
One year ago thousands of people lined up to visit the all new Lewis Library and Technology Center.

In Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, people all over the world stand in lines, spend fortunes, and wish for the lucky chance to uncover a golden ticket by unwrapping a Wonka Chocolate Bar. Children, and chocoholics, probably know the story better than anyone else, but even those who have not read the book (or seen the movies) can relate to treasure races of one sort or another. Whether it is long lines for discount sale items, buying at least one lotto ticket, or even trying to guess who will win the Super Bowl, we have all done at least one thing to try our luck.

Children at the kiosk
The Peek-a-Book kiosk has been a favorite since the first day.

Today, Fontana is unveiling a very special event for residents and library cardholders alike. Anyone who visits the regional Lewis Library and Technology Center located at 8437 Sierra Avenue will have an opportunity to enter the One Millionth Visitor contest.

Yes! One million people have passed through the doors of this magnificent building since the grand opening on April 19, 2008. Additionally, between April 19, 2008 and January 31, 2009 approximately 467,462 items were checked out. 705 programs were offered to toddlers, teens, and adults. Most impressive of all, 36,785 people had attended at least one special event.

How do I win? Join us on April 18th

To participate in the One Millionth Visitor contest, the public is invited to stop by the Lewis Library to complete an entry form. Only one entry per person will be accepted.

A One Year Anniversary party will be celebrated on April 18th from 10 am to 2 pm inside and outside of the Lewis Library and Technology Center. Events that day include several children’s activities, and local performer, Christopher Yates who will perform on stage in the Steelworkers’ Auditorium. With a diverse range of talents to include juggling, stilt walking, and comedy, Yates is certain to offer a performance to remember. Stop by for one of his shows featured every hour from 10:15 am through 1:15pm.

A prize patrol will also be moving throughout the building during the celebration to randomly select patrons for special prizes on that day. The winner will be recognized during the anniversary ceremony on April 18th.
