Twenty years ago, Gill Morales started a promising career that would lead him to some of the best restaurants in the Inland Empire. Near Los Angeles, his artistic talents delighted diners at many well known restaurants including the Monsoon Café and Conga Room which is owned by the singer and actress Jennifer Lopez. It was a fun and busy life but he wanted to be closer to home.

Ten years ago Gill and his wife Maria moved to Fontana where, in September, 2007, they opened their own restaurant, the J & M Café. The name is actually from the previous restaurant but they liked it and with the last name of Morales, they thought it would be perfect. Their goal from the beginning was to provide customers with delicious and healthy meals, and they succeeded.

“We wanted to offer food that was healthy and of the finest quality,” says Gill Morales, owner and chef.

With a charming atmosphere perfect for a lunchtime crowd or romantic dinner, the J & M Café offers an extraordinary menu for all palates.

Morales adds, “Someday, I hope to expand here in Fontana and have a bigger restaurant.”

Their location, which is close to the northeast side of Sierra Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, is convenient for anyone living above or below Baseline and has become a favorite lunch spot for many working within the downtown district.

“We don’t see as many people from the northern areas but we do see a lot from the downtown areas,” says Maria Morales, adding, “We do have a lot of regulars.”

The most popular dish at J & M Café is a pesto goat cheese and grilled chicken Panini but in March that may change as a whole new dinner menu will be introduced.

Those looking for a delectable dinner may want to make a reservation for the 2nd or 4th Saturdays of every month when Morales fixes a special full dinner complete with appetizer, soup or salad, two main dishes, a dessert, and drinks for $38.50 per person. Reservations are required.
