An Evening of Art…
The emphasis on visual arts will be evident throughout the park as visitors enjoy thirty-minute workshops, thirty-minute demonstrations on stage, and interactive arts activities. The public is invited to speak to any or all of the artists including the featured quarterly artist, Joshua Valencia, whose artwork will be on display at the Art Depot Gallery, located near the Miller Park Amphitheater, at 16822 Spring Street.
The workshops offer visitors an opportunity to learn a variety of artistic techniques from improving ceramic skills to acrylic painting. This is great for anyone interested in learning more about a particular technique. The audience members will receive instruction and have an opportunity to apply the technique with the artist present before practicing it at home.
“The workshops offer participants an opportunity to learn a specific technique directly from an artist who specializes in a particular field,” says Courtney Hodnick cultural arts coordinator, adding, “The workshops have been scheduled throughout the event and give everyone a chance to become involved.”
The artist demonstrations are different from workshops in that residents watch the artist demonstrations. Due to the popularity of the demonstrations, organizers have moved this audience favorite to a second park stage. Questions may be asked of the artists, but an opportunity to practice a technique, is not included.
The popular Concert in the Park will have a Festival flare with performing artists offering stage demonstrations followed by the Mike Sullivan Band.
It is easy to predict that the Fontana Festival of Arts will be another huge hit with residents.
“We are thrilled to bring performing arts entertainment to our community,” says Nathan Hunt cultural arts coordinator, adding, “from the Michael Sullivan Band which will jump start the evening with quality and fun music, through the diverse and inspiring 20 minute performing art showcases, this evening of art and music is sure to be a delight.”
The Thursday night venue, Miller Park Amphitheater, will be home to the cultural arts summer series, Concerts in the Park which begins in June and are also on Thursday nights. Expect to see faithful audience members enjoying a lounge in the lush grass as the sun goes down and night is filled with darkness. The spotlights will be on, while crowds freely roam the area, visiting the artists’ booths or kicking back on a blanket or lawn chair to watch the popular Michael Sullivan Band or to be entertained by a mixture of 15 to 20 minute long theatrical performances.
Information regarding the event will be posted online closer to the event date and as always, readers are encouraged to stay informed by reading the Cultural Arts Scene in each monthly Community Connection newsletter. Details are also available by calling (909) 428-8816.
