Welcome to Fernandez Park

Next month Fontana residents will welcome the official opening of the new Benjamin Fernandez Park, located on the northwest corner of Miller Avenue and Locust Avenue. The 2.3 acres of vacant land was donated by the Fernandez family in the summer of 2000 and the City added to the lot size by purchasing an additional 0.8 acres making the total park area a little over 3 acres in size. Construction for the project began in June, 2008.

A Community Park
Welcome to Fernandez Park
Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, Fernandez Park will be the perfect destination for families and walkers.

Fernandez Park is truly a community park. Not only was the land donated in the name of a family patriarch, it is also the first in the northeastern annexed areas of the city where street improvement projects have been a standard in welcoming our newest residents.

The area, like most of Fontana, was also once farmland. Benjamin Fernandez was in fact an egg farmer which offers historical and meaningful roots to the local residents who will enjoy the park for many years to come. Even the county was involved in the project. Funding for the construction of the park came from a generous grant of $750,000 from the office of San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor, Josie Gonzales.

The official park dedication is June 26 at 10 am. Please visit www.fontana.org for more information.
