The 54th Annual Fontana Days Run
Runners coming down the hill
Do you have what it takes?

The Annual Fontana Days Run is one of the biggest events of the summer here in Fontana. Not only do local runners train all year for this highly competitive event, there are dozens who travel across the globe just to compete. Many vie for a title as the Champion of the World’s Fastest ½ Marathon Course which starts in Lytle Creek and ends downtown at City Hall. Others participate in the 5K Run or 5K Race/Walk. Even families, especially children, get involved for the Family Fitness Walk and Children’s Dash.

From hundreds to thousands

In 1955 a total of 200 runners gathered at Lytle Creek to participate in the first Half Marathon run at the Fontana Days Run. Gradually, the event became a signal to the beginning of summer events in the city.

This year, a little over 1,700 people participated in the Fontana Days Run. The event draws crowds from as close as neighboring cities to as far as Africa. Some runners travel to California annually just to participate in the event.

Healthy families live in Fontana

Events for children are not only fun, they also encourage a love of physical fitness that underlies much of the Healthy Fontana way of life.

The Children’s Half Marathon Dash gives smaller runners an opportunity to compete in a marathon-type setting.  Children, ages 5 to 11, stretch and get ready to race behind a starting line, run like crazy, and cross the finish line.  The event always leaves smiles on faces and hearts beating fast.

Be a part of history

If you missed this year’s event which was sponsored by Bel-Air Swap Meet, Manheim Southern California, and many more, the 2010 race will be the 55th Annual Run.  If you are interested in volunteering, running, walking, or becoming a sponsor, please contact the City of Fontana Community Services Department special events staff at (909) 428-8360 or register for online email event updates.
