With Planning Commission approval in place, construction will soon begin for a new Hilton Gardens Inn, a 4-story, 115-room hotel and conference center at the southwest corner of Sierra and Slover avenues.
“This project represents another positive step in the continued economic growth and development of Fontana, adding a major hotel chain, meeting center and restaurant to the growing list of assets for the entire Fontana community,” said Carole Lee, chair of the planning commission for the city.
The developer is Sierra Hotel Group. Construction is expected to begin in June with completion expected in the fall of 2008.
The project will also include a new 6,500 square foot restaurant which the Fontana Economic Development Office hopes will result in the addition of another quality restaurant and business to the city landscape.
The hotel also represents the continual development of the growing area which has been called the Empire Center just south of Interstate 10 and east of Sierra Avenue.

“It is a big part of a larger picture,” said Elisa Grey economic development manager for Fontana. “The Hilton Gardens project is paving the way for more upscale retail development in South Fontana to serve its residents.”
“South Fontana is an emerging area where residential development is moving forward. And now the city Economic Development Office wants to put things in place to follow suit. I see the Hilton opening the doors to show that this type of development can happen and is sustainable.
“For example, we have talked to Chili's occupying in that region and that area,” Grey said. “We’ve also talked to the Red Robin chain.
“That area is just now coming into its own,” Grey said. “The city has always recognized potential for that area. Now developers are also seeing what potential lies there.”
