Janice Rutherford, Council Member and Chairperson of the Fontana
Redevelopment Agency
|
Janice Rutherford was first elected to the Fontana City Council in 2000
and was re-elected in 2004.
Her current term will expire in November 2008. Prior to that she served as a Planning Commissioner and a Parks & Recreation
Commissioner.
Janice is the Inland Empire's representative to the State Board of Directors for the California League
of Cities. She served three years as President of the League's Inland Empire Division. She was recently
recognized with the Leadership in Action award from the League's Mayors & Council members Academy.
She is a member of Fontana's Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. She is Past President of the Fontana
Boys and Girls Club, and serves on the Boards of Directors for the Chaffey College Foundation, the Fontana
Art Association, and the Junior Statesmen Foundation. She also helped organize the Summer Academy for the
Performing Arts for Fontana high school students and organized her church's community service projects
annually.
Janice works as Public Affairs Director for the Second District Member of the State Board of Equalization,
Bill Leonard. She served as Mr. Leonard's Chief of Staff during his terms in the State Assembly and State
Senate.
In December of 2005, she married Steve Young Lim, an occupational therapist/certified hand therapist for
Kaiser Permanente. Their son, Ethan Rutherford Lim, was born on April 30, 2007.
A native Californian, Janice earned a Bachelor's Degree with Highest Honors from U.C. Riverside. She holds
a Master's degree in American Politics from the Claremont Graduate University, where she also did doctoral
coursework in Economics and Public Policy. She is a graduate of the Great Valley Leadership Institute and
participated in the California Civic Leadership Institute.
Janice has been recognized as the 63rd Assembly District's Woman of the Year, a Woman of Distinction by
the West End YWCA, and Chaffey College's Alumni of the Year. She has received the National Medallion from
the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. |
