Q: Will annexation raise my taxes?
A: It WILL NOT raise property or utility taxes for those joining the City of Fontana. The utility users’ tax on residential property was eliminated in June 2004. The utility users’ tax on commercial property will end in June 2009.
Q: How does annexation affect police and fire response times?
A: Firefighter and paramedic response times will remain the same after annexation, since the provider will remain the same. Police protection will be more effective and efficient when our City boundaries are squared off.
Q: Can I continue to keep animals on my property?
A: YES! Current County residents will be allowed to continue to keep animals on their property – as long as it is legal now in the County, it will be legal in Fontana.
Q: Must I hook up to City sewers?
A: Current septic systems may be left in place at the discretion of the property owner – as long as it is legal now in the County, it will be legal in Fontana.
Q: If I choose to hook up into the City’s sewer system, what will be the monthly cost for service?
A: The City’s sewer rate is $16.56 per house per month. County residents that annex into the City, that are currently hooked into the sewer system, will have their sewer rate decreased by the value of the 50% utility district surcharge.
Q: What are the advantages of being a Fontana resident?
A: Being part of the City will allow for numerous amenities and improvements that are not currently being provided to you by the County. Being annexed into Fontana, the City can:
- Improve roads to ease traffic conditions within the annexed areas;
- Conduct code enforcement, helping decrease litter and illegal vendors in your area;
- Reduce local park and recreation fees;
- Provide you with additional services (graffiti removal, street sweeping, tree trimming, street improvements and maintenance) at NO ADDITIONAL EXPENSE TO YOU!
