Planning Department Project - SWIP Update
During the past few years, much of the
area between Citrus and Almond Avenues, south of the I-10 freeway and north of Jurupa
Avenue has been annexed into the City of Fontana.
The City is updating the existing
Southwest Industrial Park (SWIP) Specific Plan to address many of the issues associated
with existing developments located in this portion of Fontana and to encourage new
development. As part of the update to the plan, an annexation of the area south of the I-10 freeway between Mulberry and Almond Avenues is also included.
The City hopes to promote economic development, provide opportunities for existing property owners and new developments, and improve upon the great resources in this part of the City.
By updating the Southwest Industrial Park (SWIP) Specific Plan,
the City of Fontana can:
- Attract new property owners.
- Design roads to improve traffic flow, streetscapes and improve access to underutilized land.
- Provide new ways for property owners to better use their property.
- Expand businesses and create jobs.
- Provide design guidance for existing and new developments, improving aesthetics in the area.
- Create development opportunities for industrial uses that can generate jobs in this part of the City.
- Provide better controls for industrial developments located close to residential areas.
- Improve development standards to meet current market conditions and safety requirements.
As part of the process, the City needs your help. As the City prepares to move forward with plans to update the SWIP Specific Plan, it would like to keep you informed of the process and make sure questions are addressed.
