GENERAL PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The role of the General Plan is to provide a basis for rational decisions regarding the City’s long-term physical development. It expresses the City Council’s and community’s development goals; and embodies public policy relative to the distribution of land, both public and private. The General Plan serves to: identify the City’s land use, circulation, environmental, economic, and social goals and policies as they relate to land use and development; provide a basis for local government decision making, including decisions on development approvals and exactions; provide a road map for development which assists the City in moving from one point to another while achieving a balance of competing interests and needs of the citizenry; provide citizens with opportunities to participate in the planning and decision making processes of their community; and informs citizens, developers, decision makers, and other cities and counties of the ground rules that guide development within the community.

The General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) serves in an advisory role to the City Council when updating the City’s General Plan. It is the City Council’s desire to provide a General Plan that is responsive to all people of the community and to promote community involvement throughout the process.
