The Traffic Section of the Department
of Engineering is responsible for the analysis of traffic congestion,
delays and collision records, throughout the City. The staff works closely with adjoining communities
and the San Bernardino Association of Governments (SANBAG) to insure consistency and uniformity with
regional transportation programs. The Section closely aligns its signal designs and study guidelines
with those of the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS). The guidelines include information
from all regions of the State, to insure uniformity for the citizens.
The Traffic Section is also responsible for the design of the City’s traffic circulation facilities,
including but not limited to:
- Traffic Signals
- Street Striping
- Crosswalk installations
- Regulatory and Guide signs
- Some of the significant functions performed by the Traffic Section include:
- Traffic Signal location determination, design, and construction
- Acquisition and analysis of Traffic Counts for streets and intersections
- Street Speed Limit determination
- Study and design of Street Striping
The City of Fontana, Traffic Engineering Section is dedicated to providing
residents and motorists with an efficient and safe transportation system by coordinating the following
Traffic Engineering functions:

Temporary Lane Closures And Traffic Control
Allow 2 weeks minimum for plan checking/approval of traffic control plans
|
 Oversize Load Permits are reviewed by the Traffic Section for issuance by the Administrative Section. Please call (909) 350-7610 to have your permit ready for issuance at the Engineering East Annex Building public counter. Please allow two business days for
single load
or annual load permit processing. Over-limit loads require three business days for review and approval.
