NEW Effective January 1, 2008 a NEW California Building Standards Code will be enforced in California.

The new code includes new Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Codes.

It is the responsibility of the Department of Building & Safety to implement and enforce conformance to State laws and City Ordinances that relate to structural, fire, health and life safety requirements. This is done through the review of plans and the inspection of new construction or addition/expansions of existing structures.  The Department of Building & Safety is divided into three(3) Sections:  Administration, Plan Check, and Inspections.

Plan Check

The Plan Check Section of the Department of Building & Safety is responsible for the review of all plans submitted for conformance to all City adopted building codes.

Inspections

The Inspections Section of the Department of Building & Safety is responsible for all field inspections of construction work in progress.  Individual inspectors are assigned to areas within the City and are responsible for all nature of on site inspections required for construction.

INSPECTIONS AND LICENSED CONTRACTORS

  • California Building Standards Code, 2007 Edition, known as the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, which consists of:
    • The California Building Code, Volumes 1 & 2, based on the 2006 International Building Code;
    • The California Plumbing Code, based on the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code;
    • The California Electrical Code, based on the 2005 National Electrical Code;
    • The California Mechanical Code, based on the 2006 Uniform Mechanical Code;
    • The California Existing Building Code, based on the 2006 International Existing Building Code; and
    • The California Fire Code, based on the 2006 International Fire Code.
