NEW Effective
January 1, 2008 a NEW California Building Standards Code will be enforced in California.
The new code includes new Building, Electrical,
Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Codes.

It is the responsibility of the Department
of Building & Safety to implement and enforce conformance to State laws and City Ordinances that
relate to structural, fire, health and life safety requirements. This is done through the review of plans
and the inspection of new construction or addition/expansions of existing structures. The Department
of Building & Safety is divided into three(3) Sections: Administration, Plan Check, and Inspections.

Plan Check
The Plan Check Section of the Department
of Building & Safety is responsible for the review of all plans submitted for conformance to all
City adopted building codes.
Inspections
The Inspections Section of the Department
of Building & Safety is responsible for all field inspections of construction work in progress. Individual
inspectors are assigned to areas within the City and are responsible for all nature of on site inspections
required for construction.
