Fontana is a general law city governed by a Mayor and a four-member City Council
. The City also elects a City Clerk
and City Treasurer. All elected officers for the City of Fontana serve the City at large for four-year terms, which are staggered. The City’s municipal elections are generally held on the first Tuesday in November in even-numbered years.
Qualifications to Run For City Office
To run for City Office, you must be:
General Municipal Election
- A United States citizen
- 18 years of age or older
- A Resident and registered voter of the City of Fontana at the time nomination papers are issued
The next General Municipal Election
will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The offices up for election are two City Council Seats. The nomination filing period opened on Monday, July 18, 2016, and closed on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 5:00 p.m.
