Street Improvements on Foothill Boulevard from Sierra Avenue to Mango Avenue
Street Improvements on Foothill Boulevard from Sierra Avenue to Mango Avenue, south side of street.
General Fontana Area
The project consist of constructing a raised landscaped median on Sierra Avenue which will separate opposing vehicular traffic and reduce turning conflicts, relieving congestion and improving safety on the roadway. The median will improve the general aesthetics by including entry monuments, drought tolerant landscaping, hardscape, and lighting accents.
In October 2009, staff applied for a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant for the construction of the Foothill Boulevard raised median. In a recent 5 year period this segment experienced 131 collisions in which there were 32 injuries. Since the incidence of injury related collisions show an increase of 30% over the past two years, the project ranked high in the HSIP Grant evaluation.
The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant was funded for this project in the amount of $857,880.
This project will improve the flow of traffic and minimize traffic collisions.
